Dales Gorge and Fortescue Falls – Karijini National Park

Karijini National Park after a great wet season was incredible. I thought I would start out by posting an expansive view of Dales Gorge, overlooking the popular Fortescue Falls to give you an idea of the lay of the land.

I regard Karijini as one of Western Australia’s and possibly Australia’s top locations for Landscape Photography. The place has a lot to offer, particularly after a good wet season. There are the obvious grand scenes such as the one I have posted as well as the more intimate scenes that are a real challenge to compose and make sense of.  I would have liked to of spent more time doing the latter and hope to do so over the coming years.

  4. looks great for sure Luke. Sorry I wasn’t able to make it out there to catch up with yus hey!

I love the overall feel to the shot, really works well. One bit that got me was the twist in the image to the left. It’s something that always gets me with those ultrawide pano’s, when you end up looking back on yourself pretty much. No one else seems to mind but it’s a personal one of mine lol. The right 2/3rds is just special hey, really like it.

And where you been Mervman? Nothing but Pilbara deserts on my blog since your request and you’ve not even made a visit. Breaking my heart man…. 😦 haha 😛

Thanks for the reply Stephen. Would have been good if you made it out there.

As far as the twist in the image goes, I know what you are referring to as wide stitches suffer from straight lines being distorted but in this case the gorge actually curves back. I went over the individual images from the stitch to double check and it does curve back. It does have a twisted appearance though.
